The prep cross country season concluded on Saturday with six individual and six team champions awarded in Ethete.
The day began with the boys’ races.
In 2A boys, Saratoga’s Grant Bartlett won his third consecutive state championship in 17:01.83. His brother, Grady, took second place with Wyatt Ostler of Tongue River in third.
Rocky Mountain and Saratoga both finished with 30 team points. The Grizzlies won the team title thanks to a better finish by their fifth-place runner, 21st. It’s the first boys’ team cross country state championship in school history for Rocky Mountain.
The Class 4A boys’ race was won by Jackson’s Mason Wheeler. His winning time was 16:10.45. Jacob Frentheway of Cheyenne Central was the runnerup, and Sheridan’s Austin Akers took third.
Cheyenne Central won the team title on the boys’ side with 47 points. The Indians had four runners place in the top ten. It is the tenth title in school history for Cheyenne Central and the first since 2007.
In the 3A boys’ race, Mountain View’s Owen Burnett crossed the finish line first in a time of 16:16.47. His teammate Tanner Erickson was second. He was followed by Cameryn Spence of Douglas.
Mountain View also won the boys’ team championship with 50 points. That’s the first boys’ team title in school history.
Tongue River’s Maddy Hill won the girls’ 2A individual championship. Her victorious time was 20:19.39. Moorcroft’s Mallory Jones took second, while Marilee Williams of Saratoga finished third.
Saratoga won the team championship in the girls’ division with only 18 team points. It’s the fifth girls’ team title in school history and the first since 2009.
In 4A girl’s, Kate Brigham from Jackson made it a sweep of the 4A individual titles for her school. Her time was 18:38.15. Finley Klinger of Kelly Walsh finished second followed by Laramie’s Addison Forry in third place.
For the first time since 2017, the Cheyenne Central Indians won the 4A girls’ team championship with 43 points. They had five runners who placed in the top-16. That’s the sixth title in school history.
The 3A girls’ individual race was won by Cody’s Ava Stafford. She completed the course at 19:25.55. Star Valley’s Eve Mavy finished second. Emma Gonzales from Burns/Pine Bluffs came in third place.
The Cody Fillies won their third straight 3A girls’ team title. They won with 59 points and captured their sixth title in school history. They had five runners finish in the top-14.
