The Ironman marathon will be taking care of business in Des Moines one year from now.
The association behind the occasion declared Wednesday that the city’s subsequent Ironman race will be full distance, with competitors covering a 140.6-mile distance in swimming, cycling and running. Last year’s marathon in Des Moines was a half-occasion at 70.3 miles. The occasion will occur across Des Moines, West Des Moines and encompassing regions in Polk and Dallas provinces, with the end goal downtown.
General enlistment opens Nov. 1 for the occasion, which is planned for June 12, 2022.
“Facilitating the Ironman 70.3 prior this year was our warm-up, and presently we’re prepared for the reprise,” said Greg Edwards, president and CEO of Catch Des Moines. “Des Moines put in the energy and everything from the course to the local area wide help intrigued. Presently we’re ready to invest double the energy and have twice as much fun facilitating the lofty full-distance Ironman North American Championship.”

In 2019, Des Moines got the option to have the occasion for quite a long time, however its presentation was pushed back to 2021 after the 2020 marathon was dropped due to the Covid pandemic.
