Marathons

The Seville Marathon scheduled for November is also suspended

The 37th edition of the Zurich Maratón de Sevilla is to be expected. The race scheduled for November 14 after being postponed from its usual date in February will not finally be held, as confirmed today by the organization and the city council of the capital of Seville. The reason? The danger to economic viability that, according to them, would mean holding two such consecutive editions, less than four months apart: the one postponed to November and the next, which returns to its usual calendar on February 20, 2020.

Holding a test with a lower level than usual was a danger in order to maintain the title of the World Athletics gold label, which distinguishes the best road races in the world only behind the ‘platinum’ reserved for the ‘Majors ‘or appointments like Valencia and to stay between the two best appointments in the country in the distance. It seems clear that the coincidence in this coming autumn of all the great national and international marathons, those postponed in the first semester and those that are held on their usual dates, makes it more difficult for some organizers to get a good international elite poster to keep those awards.

“It is a very ambitious appointment that does not make the 42K distance coincide with other lower ones as happens in other cities, which would cause less interest among popular corridors in general and Sevillians in particular due to the important requirement that the distance supposes” , also justifies the official communication of the suspension.

The Seville racing calendar

The City Council also recalled that the reconfiguration of the municipal sports calendar includes the celebration of the P arche Infanta Elena of the Eastern District-Alcosa-Torreblanca race that same November 14 and that on September 24 the Guadalquivir Night Race will be held . The EDP Seville Half Marathon remains for October 17 , which for the moment and in the current context has reduced the number of numbers available compared to past editions.

The rest of the events that make up the # Sevilla10 circuit also maintain their programming, as is the case of Nervión-San Pablo on October 3, Parque de María Luisa on October 24, and Carrera Casco Antiguo on November 7 and there is only specify Miraflores Park
