A windy day wreaks havoc on the Yankees’ outfield

Here are some nuggets from the Yankees’ spring training on Tuesday:

Choose two

Catcher Carlos Narvaez picked off a pair of runners behind the plate — Dominic Smith in the first inning on a pickleball and Victor Robles in the fifth inning of the Yankees’ 5-2 loss to the Nationals.

Weather or not

It was a sunny and windy day at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, which caused some problems for the Yankees in the field.

Third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera was missing a pop-up in the sun in the third inning before the wind blew it into left-center field that center fielder Estevan Florial couldn’t catch in the fourth.

Giancarlo Stanton can still make his way on the bases.

After stringing a single in the seventh inning, he took second on Cabrera’s single.

Stanton advanced to third on a fly ball to right field and scored after being tagged again on a sacrifice bunt to left field, then went home to beat Joey Meneses’ throw.

Thursday’s program

Nestor Cortes will start his second game of the spring as the Yankees travel to Florida’s East Coast at the end of a two-game swing against the Cardinals.
