Devin McCourty of the Patriots is retiring after 13 seasons

Three-time Super Bowl champion Devin McCourty has announced his retirement from the NFL.

Posting a Zoom shot with his twin brother and former teammate Jason on Instagram, he made it official.

“I’ll always look good in a Pats uniform, but I’m not going to look good in a Pats uniform going forward. I’m officially retiring from the NFL,” he said. “It’s been a great trip.”

McCourty said “it’s hard to come to an end, as you know,” but for once in his life, he’s finally taking time to reminisce about his successful career.

“This whole season has been really back and forth for me mentally, he probably didn’t even share the thoughts I was going through from day to day,” he said. “But at the end of the day, I think it’s the best decision for me and my family, because my career is about being able to look back on my 13 years and enjoy it. I have to say that to Bill, now I have a chance to remember and look back and see how I can be next year not having to focus better. I just have to say I’ll never be better next year and enjoy it man.”

McCourty joked that he doesn’t have a new job lined up, and that he and his wife can’t spend any money after March 15, when he officially retires and will be “unemployed.”

Jason retired last year and has been involved in the Players Association ever since, something Devin suggested.

“I’m excited for what’s to come. I never thought I’d be able to retire from the NFL. That’s all I’ve ever done, really, is play football and be excited about having another job. But everything you’ve done has shown me that it’s possible, so I’m excited to follow in your footsteps again and be better than you. Should be a great journey and ready for it, man.”
