Kelly won’t name a starter this spring, but a forward could emerge after 15 practices.
Will it be Dante Moore, a freshman phenom? How about Collin Schlee, the veteran transfer from Kent State? Or Ethan Garbers, Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s backup for each of the past two seasons?
Moore has a big lead in the hype, earning five stars and earning the highest 247Sports rating of a UCLA high school quarterback in the history of the recruiting website. He is also considered ready to play at the college level.
Schlee is coming off one of the best seasons in Kent State history, ranking in the top 10 in passing yards (2,109), passing touchdowns (13) and completion percentage (59%).
Garbers is familiar with Kelly’s offense after playing in 18 games with the Bruins, including a start against Utah in 2021. And let’s not forget redshirt freshman Justyn Martin, who once threw 13 touchdown passes for Inglewood High in 106 games. 0 wins over city rival Morningside.
Clues about who is out of the running may come when the next transfer portal window opens on May 1.
