JUPITER, Fla. – In a tune-up before leaving the Mets for the World Baseball Classic, Jose Quintana had a bad-time injury.
The Mets left-hander felt left-handed tightness, GM Billy Eppler said, after Quintana threw a scoreless inning Sunday against the Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium.
Quintana, who was scheduled to pitch for Colombia, will be tested on Monday, Eppler said. It is not clear whether the 34-year-old will still participate in the tournament.
Quintana, who signed a two-year, $26 million deal this offseason, was hit in his first Grapefruit League game as he struggled to adjust to the new pitch clock.
