The Rand Paul staffer who was attacked in Washington, DC over the weekend suffered a “deep stab wound to the head” that required surgery, his uncle said.
Tim Todd, Phillip Todd’s uncle, said in a Facebook post to “Please continue to pray” for his nephew who suffered injuries to his abdomen, skull, brain and lungs.
“Physicians are worried about seizures due to the deep scalpel for the next month,” he wrote. “Phillip is resting well.”
Glynn Neal, the man arrested after Saturday’s attack, was released from jail a day before the stabbing, according to reports.

In 2011, Neal was sentenced to 12 years and four months in prison on charges of “forcing an individual into a life of prostitution without his consent” and “threatening to kidnap to injure a person”.
According to the Department of Justice, Neal served federal prison time for forcing two women into prostitution, Fox 5 reported.
Within 24 hours of his release from prison, Neal allegedly approached Paul worker Phillip Todd on the streets of Washington, DC.

Todd was stabbed and suffered “life-threatening injuries,” according to Paul’s office.
“After a member of my staff was brutally attacked last weekend in broad daylight in Washington, DC, I ask that you join Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and full recovery, and I want to thank the first responders, hospital staff and police for their care. actions. We are relieved to hear that the suspect has been arrested. We would like to ask for privacy at this time so that everyone can focus on healing and recovery,” Paul said in a statement following the attack.
The statement announced Neal’s arrest, “in reference to a felony assault with intent to kill (Knife),” and that the incident occurred in the 1300 block of H Street NE, less than 1.5 miles from the U.S. Capitol.

Senator Paul himself was attacked by a neighbor and seriously injured in 2017. He broke six ribs, including three displaced fractures, and his recovery was complicated by fluid and blood around his lungs and recurring pneumonia.
Paul and his wife were also attacked by a mob as the couple returned to a hotel after Donald Trump’s 2020 Republican National Convention acceptance speech at the White House. A man was charged with assaulting a police officer near Paul at the time, but was later dropped.
