Bahraini world champion Eid Naser misses Olympics due to doping suspension

The International Sports Tribunal TAS has decided to suspend the Bahraini world 400m champion Salwa Eid Naser for 2 years. She has to miss the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The doping saga surrounding Salwa Eid Naser has been dragging on for a while. In the summer of 2020, an investigation was launched into violations of the doping protocol by Naser. According to the Athletics Integrity Unit, she committed four violations of the whereabouts regulations.

Naser has now been suspended for 2 years by the TAS. With that, the sports tribunal overturned a decision of the disciplinary committee of the International Athletics Federation in October, in which the 400 meters specialist was acquitted.

The 23-year-old Naser caused a surprise at the beginning of October last year by rushing to gold on the track round at the World Cup in the Qatari capital Doha.

At the Khalifa Stadium, she set 48″14 on the tables, the third fastest chrono of all time. At the 2017 World Cup, she captured another silver medal.
