Jacobo Named EIU Male Newcomer Of The Year

Men’s crosscountry sprinter Richie Jacobo has been chosen as the Eastern Illinois Male Newcomer of the Year for the 2020-21 athletic year.

Jacobo was one of five contender for the honor which is introduced to a competitor in their first period of rivalry for EIU during the 2020-21 season. The other four possibility for the Male Newcomer of the Year Award included Miguel Turcios (swimming), Matt Judd (football), Logan Eickhoff (baseball) and Sammy Friday IV (b-ball).

Jacobo was an individual from the OVC Championship crosscountry group as he procured second group All-Ohio Valley Conference praises with an eleventh spot finish at the alliance title. He was the top finisher among OVC green beans acquiring OVC Freshman of the Year praises for his exhibition. During the track season Jacobo ran the 1,500 meter and 5,000 meter occasions contending in six outside meets.

He is the primary crosscountry/track and field competitor to win EIU Male Newcomer of the Year praises. EIU didn’t perceive athletic honor victors for the 2019-20 athletic year because of COVID-19 dropping the spring sports season.
