A total of 56 athletes will make up the Spanish athletics delegation for the Tokyo Games . The 32 men and 24 women make up the highest representation of the last three Olympic events and in the case of women, it equals the best figure in history that so far corresponded to Sydney 2000.
The coach Jose Peiro announced the composition of the team after the end of the world ranking and the publication of admission lists World Athletics. It will be the largest expedition of all the sports disciplines in which Spain will be represented.
The team will be led by Jesús Ángel García Bragado , who in Tokyo will play his eighth Olympic Games in the test that has given him glory in the 50 km walk, which will also be the last time that this specialty is part of the Olympic program. Bragado will share captaincy with the Cuatrocentista Aauri Lorena Bokesa.
It is an experienced Spanish team, full of present, but with a promising future as it is worth noting the youth of many of its members. Undoubtedly, one of the great news is the total recovery of the current Olympic runner-up, hurdler Orlando Ortega, who after his last performances has shown splendid form and who will seek to repeat the success achieved in Rio 2016 in the 110-meter hurdles.
