Spring Game Thread #12: A’s vs. Reds

The Oakland A’s last won a game on Friday. Now it’s the next Wednesday. Spring training standings don’t matter, and a day can serve as a win regardless of the box score, but nobody would complain if a couple more of those meaningless victories came our way.

It appears today’s game is not televised locally. The NBC Sports website says it’s on NBC Sports California, but it’s not, or at least my TV is showing an infomercial.

On the mound is Cole Irvin, who is trying out a new cutter and an aggressive new approach. The lefty struck out eight batters through his first six spring innings entering this afternoon.

In the lineup, Jed Lowrie gets some reps at first base. Austin Allen was going to start at catcher but was scratched due to an illness. Non-roster utilityman Drew Jackson shows some versatility by moving from the middle infield to the corner outfield.
